Woods Pulls Out of British Open 6/07/2011 2:01:49 PM

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from next week's British Open at Royal St George's after being advised not to risk further injury to his left knee and Archilles tendon.

Woods sustained the injuries in the third round of the Masters in April. He said with hindsight he should not have competed at the Players and now believes he will not rush back, but will take his time to allow his injuries to recover completely.

He said he was disappointed not to be able to take part in the British tournament, apologising to fans, but said he was confident he will be able to regain his form.

He will be replaced by Brendan Jones at the British Open.
