Williams Fined for Open Rant 13/09/2011 1:08:30 PM

Serena Williams' angry outbursts during the US Open finals at the weekend have been met with a US$2,000 fine.

Williams was under a Grand Slam probation for an outburst during the 2009 tournament, and some feel she has been let off rather lightly.

The match umpire gave her a code violation after the first game of the second set for her shout to Stosur of 'C'mon' before Stosur had hit the ball.

Williams was clearly unhappy with the umpire's decision as she ranted at her after the game in question and during the changeover.

With tournament earnings of US$1.4 million, a $2000 fine will surely bear no impact.

However the USTA said the fine was ''consistent with similar offences at Grand Slam events."
