V8 Supercar driver Karl Reindler is recovering at home in Perth after escaping a fireball at Barbagallo Raceway on Sunday.
His Holden
Commodore stalled on the grid and was rear-ended by another car causing it to explode into flames.
Lucky Reindleer managed to escape the inferno but suffered second degree burns to his hands along with minor burns to his face.
His $600,000 racecar was pretty much reduced to a pile of ash.
Reindler praised V8 medical staff, his own pit crew and those from
rivals Kelly Racing and Holden Racing Team, who were first on the scene
and helped put out the fire.
He said he had struggled to the safety harness off, but the car and race suit had done their job.
The race suit is made of three layers of protective material which saved him from a worse fate.
