Wests Tigers forward Simon Dwyer may never play again after results of a nerve conduction test to assess the damage to nerves in his right shoulder and arm showed severe damage requiring major surgery.
Dwyer suffered the damage in the Tigers v Bulldogs game in Round 16 when he tackled forward Michael Hodgson.
Dwyer's strength and aggression were the key factors to the severity of the injury - such damage is usually only seen in high-impact motorbike or skiing accidents.
He only has very limited movement in his right arm and hand. If he has surgery, nerve tissues would be grafted from another part of his body to the damaged nerve and would take years to fully rehabilitate to a professional playing level.
Dwyer's promising career sadly looks like it could be over.
