Ian Thorpe will need to become more lean and muscular in order to compete against today's top sprinters, according to esteemed sprint coach Grant Stoelwinder.
Thorpe yesterday trained before the media at Ultimo, looking larger in the torso than his competition.
He has already said he aims to lose 5kg and achieve his goal weight of 96kg, but this is still way above the average in his field, compared to superstar Michael Phelps at 83kg and Olympic champ Alain Bernard - 84kg.
