NRL fans in Sydney may get just three finals games to watch this season, with the Dragons, Sea Eagles and the Tigers looking most likely to make it at this stage.
NRL marketing manager Paul Kind said the outcome of having a national and international competition was that there are fewer games than before, but there are nine Sydney-based teams.
Kind said they still expected good TV ratings and crowd attendance with teams from Sydney, Auckland, Townsville and Melbourne making it to the finals.
Kind said NRL crowd attendance had slowed this season due to the number of struggling Sydney clubs - six are in the bottom eight.
