Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has been banned for two matches after swearing on tv when he scored a hat-trick in the match against West Ham last Saturday.

Rooney had appealed against the mandatory two-match ban, United requested it to be cut to just one, but the FA showed no leniency.

Rooney will now miss United's upcoming Premier League clash with Fulham, and their all-important FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City on April 16.

The striker said he was 'gutted' by the result, saying he was not the first player to have sworn on TV and would certainly not be the last.
