Thoroughbred racehorse owner Les Samba has been shot dead on a busy Melbourne street last night.
Samba was well known for his selection and purchasing of great racehorses, including Shogun Lodge, Gorky Park and Guillotine.
He raced many horses with Ron Medich, who is accused of murdering his former business associate Michael McGurk in September 2009.
As yet no motive has been established for Samba's death and no weapon has been found.
Police are hunting a gunman thought to be aged in his 30s.
They have confirmed there was some sort of altercation between males on Beaconsfield Parade and are appealing for residents to come forward with any information they may have.
