Queensland last night defeated NSW 34-24 to win the State of Origin series for the sixth consecutive year and gave skipper Darren Lockyer the send-off he deserved.
The Maroons quickly took a 24-0 lead over the Blues with Maroons centre Greg Inglis opening up the scoring in the 16th minute.
Queensland controlled the match with their attack and defence, but their star five-eigth Johnathan Thurston had to be stretchered off the field with a bad knee injury in the 59th minute..
Maroons hooker Cameron Smith was named man of the match and player of the series.
Lockyer was precise and controlled throughout the match.
Afterwards he said he'd never felt as nervous. He said it had been a great journey which he hoped all Queenslanders had enjoyed.
