Ricky Ponting has stood down as captain this afternoon and supported Michael Clarke to replace him.

He wishes to remain as a batsman for the national team, saying he wanted 'to continue to lead by example both on and off the field'.

Cricket Austalia is conducting a review after poor performances in both the Ashes and the World Cup, but Ponting denied he had been under any pressure from them to stand down.
