Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has signed with new Tasmanian franchise Hobart Hurricanes for the Twenty20 Big Bash League, Cricket Tasmania said.

The coup was announced by Cricket Tasmania today.

Ponting said he was very excited about playing alongside some great players and he was looking forward to playing for his home state once more.

The Big Bash takes place from December 30 to February 5.F
