Defending champion Rafael Nadal advanced easily to the second round of Wimbledon yesterday, defeating Michael Russell of the States, 6-4 6-2 6-2.
Nadal has never lost a first round match at any Grand Slam event. He will face Ryan Sweeting, also from the US, in the next round.
Nadal's centrecourt match came before the rains put paid to 13 of the 32 scheduled 's singles matches being held off until today.
The Brits' Wimbledon hopes were kept alive as Andy Murray dispatched Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver, 4-6 6-3 6-0 6-0.
Murray will face either Slovenia's Blaz Kavcic or Germany's Tobias Kamke in the second round.
