Eight members have been announced for the independent NRL commission, which will eventually take over from current owners News Limited and the Australian Rugby League.

South Sydney president Nick Pappas revealed the names at yesterday's meeting of club bosses in Sydney.

Former international John Grant will chair the group which includes Catherine Harris, Ian Elliott, Peter Gregg, Gary Pemberton, Jeremy Sutcliffe, Chris Sarra and Wayne Pearce. 

NRL chief executive David Gallop said there was still a fair amount of progress to be made before the commission would be ready to take control.

It is expected they may take the reins in time for the start of the new season on November 1 this year.
