NRL Commission Announced Next Week 8/07/2011 2:57:00 PM

The NRL commission finally looks almost ready to be put into place after years of internal politics and bickering.

The future of rugby league in Australia will be governed by an independent commission led by eight commissioners.

The ARL's 10 directors have settled on eight nominations; Chris Sarra, a director with the Queensland Government's Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership. John Grant, a Brisbane IT executive, former Qantas and Billabong chairman Gary Pemberton, Leighton Holdings chief financial officer Peter Gregg, former Australian forward Wayne Pearce, Harris Farm markets founder Catherine Harris, advertising executive Ian Elliott and CSR director Jeremy Sutcliffe.

ARL chairman John Chalk said they needed to get final agreement from News Ltd and the 16 clubs, but expected to announce the commissioners next week.

There is no set date for when the ARL and News Ltd officially hand over to the new commissioner.
