NRL boss David Gallop today said there was no definite 'genuine contender' among the seven teams all vying to join the NRL in 2015.

The newest club to join was the Gold Coast Titans in 2007, and their lack of success and crowd pulling power of late would not seem to bode well for more teams to join.

However Gallop said this was not the issue, it is more a case of all interested teams needing to prove themselves in one or more aspects.   

He said "I admire the enthusiasm of all our bid teams but the fact is every one of them have some pluses and minuses.

"Everyone has some stuff that they need to be working on to be genuine contenders to get into this competition and the Bombers are in that position - they have more work to do to convince us of their place.''
