The deadline for Queensland coach Mal Meninga to make an apology and issue a retraction for his comments in his column in the Sunday Mail last weekend, is fast  approaching, and there is no sign of him backing down.

Three members of the NRL match review committee issued an ultimatum this week - apologise or we sue.

The deadline given was end of play today, and it is anticipated they will go ahead with their threats.

Meninga himself attended a meeting at the Sunday Mail offices yesterday and enjoyed the full backing of senior editors there.

Editor Scott Thompson said they had reiterated their support for him and were backing him 100%.
