Collingwood assistant coach Mark Neeld has been appointed as the Demons' new senior coach.
Neeld told the press he would be taking the same approach with Melbourne as he had when he coached Bellarine League club Ocean Grove to four straight premierships, from 2000-03.
He said he would make the club the hardest to lay in the AFL.
Mick Malthouse dismissed any notions Neeld had of continuing with the Magpies after his appointment, telling him his role was effective at the Demons immediately, and solely for the Demons.
Neeld will now be attending Melbourne's best and fairest awards on Friday night, not watching the Magpies play Hawthorn in a preliminary final.
