Two Collingwood players have today been sensationally fined for breaking AFL anti-gambling rules, and one will miss eight games after also being suspended.

Magpies Defender Heath Shaw will not play at any level now until the AFL finals.

He was banned for 14 matches, with 6 suspended and was also fined $20,000.

Magpies captain Nick Maxwell was fined $10,000, with half suspended, for his part in a betting plunge before the round-nine win over Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

The betting plunge relied on Maxwell kicking the first goal in the match against the Crows.

He normally plays as a defender, but started the game in attack.

Shaw had shared $10 with a friend in a $20 bet, while that same friend and another friend made two small bets, totalling $15.

The AFL uncovered the plunge during routine checks with bookmakers.

Maxwell's fine was due to three of his family members making bets totalling $85.
