British golfer Luke Donald has claimed the world No.1 ranking and the European PGA Championship title in a tense play-off against compatriot Lee Westwood on Sunday.

Westwood lost his world topping title after they replayed the par 5 18th at Wentworth and Westwood's approach shot ended up in the water.

He then failed to hole his chip from the drop zone and Donald became the third Englishman to head the rankings.

Donald was thrilled saying, "It is something that you dream about but you never know if you are going to get there."
