Injured Formula One driver Robert Kubica is making excellent progress since his terrible crash in February.

Renault's team principal said Kubica was ahead of the recovery schedule so far and managing to keep up his morale and motivation.

The driver almost lost his right arm and hand in a rally race in Italy.

German driver Nick Heidfeld will be taking his place this season, which starts in Melbourne next weekend.
