Former Sydney Rooster Ben Jones has been promoted to replace an injured Johnathan Thurston in Saturday's NRL match, Cowboys v Gold Coast.

In the halfback role, Jones has been throne in at the deep end, said Thurston.

He will be up against experienced Titans halfback and skipper Scott Prince.
