The MotoGP in Japan will take place after radiation risks there were deemed to be 'negligible'.

The race, scheduled for October 2, has been under doubt since the earthquake and tsunami hit in March this year.

The Fukushima nuclear powerplant which was badly affected, is not far from the racetrack - the Twin Ring Motegi.

But the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) published an official report yesterday admitting to the presence of radioactive contamination but stating that the likely radiation dose for a spectator over the space of a week could be 'considered normal', and along the lines of levels currently in cities such as Rome and Madrid.

Australian championship leader Casey Stoner recently said he would not attend the Japanese race because of the risk of radiation.

Current world champion Jorge Lorenzo has also said he will not attend.

Whether the FIM's report will change their minds remains to be seen.
