Manly coach Des Hasler, backed by NRL officials and coaches, has approached the NRL to ease their salary cap and let clubs replace players who suffer long-term injuries.
In just three rounds so far this season 41 players have already been injured. Their total value on paper is $10 million, and the argument is that when a key player becomes injured, the club should have the facility to replace with another player of the same standard, without fear of reprisal for topping a salary cap.
The team's performance is hugely affected when such a player goes down and can affect the outcome for the whole season.
Hasler said it was wrong for injuries to potentially ruin a club's season.
