Des Hasler has the tough choice between his loyalty to the Manly Sea Eagles or the 2.2 million dollar offer to coach Canterbury Bulldogs. Currently Hasler is getting $400,000 a season at Brookvale, compared to the $750,000 a season offer with the doggies. If Hasler decides to take the deal, it will make him the third highest paid coach in the history of NRL.
Manly's owner and Chairman Scott Penn reportedly made emergency talks with Hasler on Friday night, just days before the Grand Final to try and persuade Hasler to remain with Sea Eagles.
Its alleged that the Bulldogs proposal was secretly offered two weeks ago, with a 'throw-off' scent from their interest in Hasler by a supposed coach with the English Super League. Its understood that the Bulldogs want an answer by the Tuesday after Sundays Grand Final.
"There's nothing to report. We're going to leave it until next week,"
Penn said. "I think we're close but not quite there. Des just wants to
get the grand final out of the way."
Next week could see Hasler on the gravy train behind Newcastle Knights' Wayne Bennett and Melbourne Storm's Craig Bellamy.
