Matt Giteau and Nathan Sharpe are surprise omissions from the Wallabies squad this weekend's Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Cup Test in Auckland.

Coach Robbie Deans named his 24-man squad who will face the formidable All Blacks and has included veteran Dan Vickerman and also rookie Sitaleki Timani.

Sharpe's Rugby World Cup hopes will be hanging by a thread after being dumped from the squad.
