Footy Players Beesieged in Brazil 3/06/2011 5:33:33 PM

Footy players in Brazil were besieged by a swarm of bees during a semi-professional match last weekend.

The bees invaded the pitch and began stinging players and a referee. Some players fell to the ground in pain and one had to be stretchered from the field.

The match was suspended as the 'bee'leagured players recovered.

Players in a semi-professional football match in Brazil were sent diving to the ground on the weekend, but not in the way you would think.

The match between Corumbaense and Itapora had to be suspended after a swarm of bees invaded the pitch and attacked players from both teams.

An Itapora player was the first to succumb to a bee sting and had to be stretchered from the field in distress. Seconds later players from both sides, along with the referee, fell to the ground as the bees took control.

South American football players have been lambasted for diving and feigning injury in the past, but to be floored by insects is surely a new low.
