A football player in the Belgian League has been left in need of reconstructive surgery to his face after being kicked in the head during a title-deciding match in Belgium.The player - Standard Liege midfielder Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez - had lowered himself to head the ball and was struck fully in the face by Racing Genk defender Chris Mavinga's boot and shin.
Carcela was knocked out by the impact and suffered multiple fractures of his cheek, nose and right eye socket.
Mavinga - a player on loan from English Premier League Liverpool, was given a yellow card.
