Troubled footballer Brendan Fevola will be sacked by the Brisbane Lions within the next few days.

Following high-level talks yesterday at AFL headquarters, the decision was made to bring Fevola's contract to a premature end.

It is understood Fevola will receive a seven-figure payoff, which will be spread out over two years.

Fevola is still staying at a rehabilitation facility. Special arrangements will come into effect to help Fevola rebuild his life after leaving the Lions.

The official announcement regarding his sacking could be made on Monday.
