England has won the second Test against India with a day remaining.

India looked solid with a record victory target of 478, with Sachin Tendulkar's top-scoring 56, but England's Tim Bresnan was unstoppable and the side defeated India by 319 runs.

They could well knock India off the top spot, all they ned to do is maintain or better their lead in the remaining two Tests.

England has defeated Australia in the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval.

The tourists now lead the series 1-0 and will retain the urn if they win the next Test in Perth, which starts December 16.

Australia had resumed at 4-238, 137 runs behind, and lost their final seven wickets for 66 to lose by an innings and 71 runs.

 England has not won a Test series in Australia since the 1986-87 series.
