Jelena Dokic was defeated by 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in the first round at Wimbledon yesterday, 6-4 1-6 6-3.
Dokic had had high hopes for the match, holding a great record on the grassy centrecourt, and also beating her opponent in their previous three encounters.
Dokic's loss was her sixth opening round exit in eight grand slams.
But she remained upbeat, saying she will work hard to improve her seeding this year. She said if she can get seeded in the Australian Open next year, she would avoid first rounds such as this one.
Dokic had looked to be dominant before rain hit and a 50-minute delay ensued as the roof was closed.
Schiavone came back on the court very positively and used her slice to unnerve Dokic.
