Luca Cumani-trained grey Bauer is making his racing comeback in the Persian Punch Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday.

It will be his first race since he narrowly missed out on winning the Melbourne Cup in 2008.

His trainer wasn't getting any hopes up however, saying the horse hadn't raced for 2 years due to a leg problem.

He said they would give him a couple of runs before making any decisions about Melbourne this year.
